1970 Mercury Cougar with 18,800 documented miles. Originally a New Jersey car.
This clean, low mileage Cougar was originally sold by Miles Lincoln Mercury Corp. of 626 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, NJ 07071. 20 February 1970 was the date it was sold to a Mr. L. Zuza of North Arlington, NJ.
This automobile is an "H" code Cougar which sports the 351 Cleveland engine with 2 barrel carburetor. It has the FMX Merc-O-Matic Transmission and a 3.00 standard axle ratio. It is a hardtop that was built in Dearborn, Michigan on 11 February 1970 and is painted Medium Ivy Green Metallic (Ford #3323-A). Also came with the green Vinyl Roof.
The mint and nearly flawless interior is just plain gorgeous. The color of the front buckets and rear bench seat is Medium Ivy Green. It also came with tinted glass, power side windows, AM/FM radio, rear window defogger, console and remote control left hand mirror.
The final options list includes: E78x14 white sidewall belted tires, power steering, air conditioning - Selectaire, and manual drum brakes. Of course one of the coolest features of an early Mercury Cougar were the hide-a-way headlights and the sequential turn signals. Very slick indeed!
It is not a rare car in it's own right. But it is a low mileage survivor, and I believe I am the 4th owner. The original owner died and this car was left as part of his estate. The 2nd and 3rd owners only had the car a short while but many mechanical repairs were made.
The 2nd owner also lived in Lyndhurst, New Jersey and the 3rd owner in Cos Cob, CT. I intend to keep this car for quite a while. She is a pleasure to drive. The 351 Cleveland is a hard puller and is quite ballsy.
STATISTICS: This car was one of:
